Sanctuary Ministries
Linen Committee
This could be described as one of the oldest ministries in any Catholic Church. There has long been a need for the linens used on the Altar, and for all the Sacraments including the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at Mass, to be cleaned after use. Historically volunteers have cared for the precious linens, keeping them clean and in good condition, and even hand stitching the beautifully elaborate and liturgically significant designs on them.
This committee does NOT stitch and sew any longer, but we do keep our linens cleaned and organized. This small committee takes turns each week picking up the soiled linens from the Sacristy after Mass, soaking, laundering and ironing them, and returning them to the Sacristy drawers the following weekend. This is a very quiet and sweet ministry. You are never 'out front', but are indeed an integral part of the maintenance and support of our Church for each and every Mass and other Sacraments.
As a new member of this ministry, you would be personally trained by another member. This is so simple that one quick meeting after a Mass, an instruction sheet, and a clean sample to use as an example is all that is necessary. Bless you for considering this ministry!

Heavenly Dusters
Heavenly Dusters are volunteers who tidy up the Cathedral each week before weekend Masses, usually on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Dusters spend approximately 2 hours cleaning. Some duties are: straighten the hymnals, restock the envelopes in the pews, remove trash from the hymnal holders, dust the Altar, Chapel, Stations of the Cross, tidy up the Confessional, clean the glass doors and display case, etc. Our volunteers work in teams of two. We currently have 9 teams and each team is schedule to clean every 6 weeks.

Docent Committee
The docent committee of the Cathedral is a volunteer committee comprised of a small group of parishioners who share a love of and appreciation for our historic Cathedral and its place in our community.
We have gathered information over the years from notes, books, art history experts, and, of course, former pastors.
We provide tours to anyone who has an interest. These groups may range from schoolchildren to senior citizens to visiting priests. Tours of the Cathedral are especially popular with art history students. We have both Catholic and Non-Catholic groups and try to tailor our presentation to the age and interests of the group.
Tours are arranged through the Cathedral office and are generally held during normal working hours, however, weekend tours can often be arranged depending on our docent's schedules. Evening tours are not provided.
We welcome any parishioner who has an interest in learning more about the Cathedral. We suggest observing several tours in order to become comfortable with the information before going 'solo'. At present, we give approximately 12-15 tours a year. It is a learning process but so rewarding!

Flower Committee
The Flower Ministry at the Cathedral of St. Andrews strives to enhance the beauty of our beloved Cathedral giving back to our Creator the beauty he has given us. The artistic and aesthetic dimensions of floral compositions are used to express and enhance our liturgical seasons, special Holy Days and occasions throughout the year.
Donations to commemorate a special occasion i.e. birthday, baptism, marriage, anniversary, death of a loved one, or a special holy day are always welcomed. Requests for particular dates are honored on a first come, first serve basis. We also provide envelopes in your monthly packet for contributions specifically for the Christmas and Easter Flowers.
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated during Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions. This special time given strives to enhance your devotion and reflection of these sacred events.
